Camber Kits Guide for Beginners. The how and why. We answer your questions here.

Hi. I’m Peter with Import Auto Performance and CamberKit.com. I just want to answer some quick questions for you in regards to camber kits, some very common questions and some questions that should help you in making a purchase or making a decision on which camber kit you need if you need one. OK?

The first and very popular question, this is regards to how the kits are packaged. Customer is always asking, “Will this kit cover both left and right sides on my vehicle?”

The answer is yes to that question. A lot of companies or some companies out there will package just for left or just for right. You got to purchase in quantity too. We don’t do that. I feel like it’s a little bit confusing and so you know when you purchase from us that quantity of one on the website will cover left and right sides.

So if you need a front kit, purchase quantity of one. That will cover front left and front right. Same for the rear. OK? So if that’s the question you’re looking to get answered, you can stop here and that should answer it for you. OK?

Another very common question is, “Why do I need a camber kit or what is a camber kit?” OK. So you may have gone to your alignment shop and they told you that they couldn’t get your alignment back to factory specifications and that you needed a camber kit or you may have noticed that the inner edge of your tires have been wearing really quickly and you want to know how to fix that problem. OK?

So the camber kit, what it will do, is it will take your tires from looking like this if you’re looking from the back of a car or the front of a car and it will straighten them out. All right?

It’s either going to do that via a bolt or an arm or bushing. There are different types of kits for different types of vehicles because they have different suspensions. All right?

But they’re all going to do the same thing. We take it from this to this. Why you do that is because when your tires are riding like this, they’re only riding an inside edge of the tire. So you’re just tearing up the inner edge of that tire and in the outside, if you look at your tire, it probably looks brand new, right?

So it will straighten it out which will increase the contact patch. The tire will be touching the road evenly and so you will not only notice that your tires are wearing longer because they’re wearing evenly. They’re lasting longer, I’m sorry, but also your traction will be improved because you will have your full tire, the full contact patch touching the road. So better handling, better traction in both wet and dry. So it’s really a huge plus.

You probably notice a decrease in road noise and the list goes on and on. It’s really a good thing to get those tires aligned. Now you may have lowered your car. You may have put bigger wheels and tires on there. You may have done both or you may have done none of those.

You may just have a vehicle that comes off the line and it’s at the edge of factory specifications and it can’t be adjusted any farther and we notice that with a lot of newer vehicles especially the newer sports cars and so you will want to just get that camber fixed and so you can have all this increases that I just talked about. OK?

Another question is the folks are like, “Well, now, I know that I need one. I know how they work. I know how they’re packaged. What brand do I go with?”

If you’re doing some searching on Google or you’re searching on eBay, you will probably find there are a bunch of brands out there for your car. What you want to do is you want to make sure you go with a proven manufacturer, someone that has been out for a while and have done proper R and D.

I will give you some of the brands. OK? Specialty Products Company, they’ve been around for almost 40 years. They specialize in the alignment industry. That’s all they do and they actually private label for a lot of other manufacturers and they sell it to some of the dealers. OK?

So that is a really great brand to go with. Ingalls Engineering out of Colorado, they have been around for a very long time and they do proper research and development on their kits and we’ve had really good success with those.

If you have a Mercedes or BMW or VW Audi, you can go with K-MAC of Australia. They’ve been around for 40 plus years. They do some great R and D, make everything in-house. They’re in Australia and so that’s a really great brand to go with.

So if you have a Mercedes, most likely you’re going to have a hard time finding a kit or BMW. It’s an older one as well. They make kits for almost every BMW and Mercedes under the sun. What’s really cool about them as well is they will cover vehicle applications that most other manufacturers haven’t touched yet. It’s very interesting. OK?
